Marrakesh, a Gem of the African Sahara

２０２０年の２月、モロッコのマラケッシュ、フェズ、ヴォルビリス、ラバトを旅した時をベースにマラケッシュの旅のしおりを作りました。 初めてのアフリカ大陸は覚悟をしていたものの冒険でした。 サンフランシスコからロンドンを経由してマラケッシュから旅が始まります。電車でモロッコを旅できたことは、"世界の車窓から"が大好きだった私には感慨深いものでした。 ７時間以上かけて、フェズに電車で向かったり（詐欺にあう笑）タクシーを値段交渉してモロッコ最大古代遺跡ヴォルビリスの歴史を勉強できたのもいい思い出です。 イスラム教の国を旅するのは、初めてで思い描いていたモスクの中を実際に見ることはできませんでしたが、ランプや染物の工芸はとても美しかったです。 他の国とまた違った色の配色が独特でタイルやタジンのポッドの陶芸に目を奪われました。

I visted Morocco in 2020 and decided to make a guide based on my experience in Marrakech. This was my first trip to Africa and in addition to Marrakech, I visited Fes, Volubilis, and Rabat. To get there from San Francisco, I transferred in London Gatwick Airport. I really enjoyed the train ride from Marrakech to Fes. First class was worth the extra euros. Another nice memory I have is negotiating for a taxi to Volibulis, a large Ancient Roman ruins outside the city of Meknes.

Because Morocco is a conservative Muslim country, I was unfortunately not able to visit the inside of any mosques, but the craftwork in the marketplace (rugs, lamps, and tiles) was beautiful. The color scheme of the whole country was unique and like nothing I had ever seen.

大事なこと：女の子だけでの旅は、おすすめしません。私も数人の友達と旅をしました。特にリヤドやホテルの外に出たらトイレや一人で行動することはほとんどありませんでした。露出がある服装には注意です。（半袖でも気をつけないと行けない時期があるので調べてから行きましょう。） 暑いのがあまり得意ではないので、２月下旬を選びました。気候は、朝は薄い長袖、昼間は半袖で快適に過ごせました。３月からすでに砂漠の暑さになるそうです。

Important for traveling to Morocco: I would not recommend going alone as a female or a small group of young females. Depending on where you visit, it is also best to dress conservatively to not draw attention to yourself. I picked late February to travel. It was comfortable to wear long sleeves in the morning and short sleeves in the afternoon. It seems the desert heat picks up in March.
